Football is popular around the world, it’s a sport that unites us all and something that most of us, can’t imagine living without. It’s the most the widely viewed and highly profitable and marketable sport, which has made football clubs and its players, extremely wealthy and getting, treated like celebrities at times…

Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter has given me a better insight and view on how much people love and breath this sport, and how close it has brought people from different backgrounds and cultures together, especially when they’re cheering for the same club or national side. There was also something that I’ve noticed and that was sports betting, especially betting on results of certain fixtures and who will score first, etc. There were also people tweeting and chatting with others on getting involved in Fantasy Leagues, some which involve prize money on who ends up first by the end of the season and which is hugely popular among sports fans. This caught my eye as I never knew that betting was this popular and acts as a hobby and entertainment for many.

Many have debated over the years on whether or not, betting should be legal for people who are not considered adults and whether it should be legal in general. This hasn’t stopped betting sites like William Hill, from gaining huge profits and popularity, and becoming a giant in the business. Many of whom I met on Twitter and Facebook, openly discuss on how much they won or lost while betting on a match or something similar and are still not considered adults.

This brought my interest on the subject of what age is appropriate for someone to bet, without getting into trouble with the law? Most bet in secret and lie about their age, but should sites have more restrictions and get tougher in enforcing the age limit? In my opinion, if the person is just there to have fun, socialize and is sensible with handling money then there shouldn’t be tight restrictions. The responsibility falls on the person who is betting and not the site, as they’re just there for the profit. I personally, never have submitted a bet in my life, but I have friends who’ve and they tend to enjoy it.

To sum it up, if betting helps bring people closer to each other and it’s just for fun, then let people enjoy without any worries.

Finally, the big one! The finale. I think a whole lot of people…

had their money on New Zealand to win the tournament from the very beginning. So, reaching the finals was the very minimum before the tournament. By now, I think, they would even see the reaching of the final as absolute failure if that game would be lost. The entire nation lives and breathes Rugby and for them to host the world cup of their beloved sport is the pinnacle. The Kiwis have flown through the tournament and brushed aside everything and everyone. Including the Aussies in their semi finale. It was more than impressiv how the swept them aside within the first 20 minutes. As for France, noone expected them to reach the finals this time around. The team seemed to be in disarray and no connection between coach and team seemed obvious. Public criticism of their coach about particular players hasnt helped that bond either. But they have surprised us all and reached the finals again. France like to play the underdog and seem to strive in that role. I do think New Zealand are going to win their very first Rugby World Cup but the odds are an aboslute disgrace. Noone with any betting sense will take these odds. Therefore I will take the generous 8.5 with SportingBet but only 2 units as I fully expect the Kiwis to win that game comprehensivly. I can not wait for it, it will be an absolute spectacle and a very fitting end to an awesome world cup, hosted by an awesome nation! Thank you Kiwis!

Barcelona are intending to reveal Cesc Fabregas at a homecoming ceremony over the coming weekend….

Barca sources state they are “99.9% certain” that the £35m transfer is going through.

Arsenal sources insist any final deal remains to be “days as opposed to hrs at a distance” but privately admit Fabregas’s exit is imminent.

Fabregas properly trained together with his Arsenal team-mates for what seems to be the ultimate time on Friday morning.

It really is thought Arsenal will get a guaranteed £30m with an additional £5m influenced by the amount of games competed and trophies won by the 24-year-old throughout his time at the Nou Camp.

Arsenal’s beginning Premier League game at Newcastle on Saturday has deferred the culmination on the package.

But participants with the Catalan giants already have praised Fabregas’s anticipated signing by means of social networking site Twitter.

Club skipper Carlos Puyol tweeted: “Welcome home! Happy to have you here!” And fellow defensive player Gerard Pique included: “He’s finally here!”

Earlier Arsene Wenger confessed neither Fabregas or Samir Nasri would participate in Newcastle with both near to moves out from the club.

Nasri seems set to go to Manchester City for roughly £23m and been specifically been excluded from the Gunners’ squad visiting St James’ Park.

Despite their absences, Wenger rejected to get utilized to the speculation over the midfielders’ futures on Friday morning hours.

He bizarrely stated: “I anticipate no one to go away. There’s no news. When there is information, I guarantee I will deliver it.”

When questioned if he consequently predicted the set to stay, Wenger responded that has been “a good conclusion from my statement”.

Nevertheless, previously the club’s official internet site, Wenger accepted that Fabregas’ foreseeable future might be determined prior to the beginning of the Premier League season.

“That is totally reality. Hopefully it’ll be dealt with in a short time one way or perhaps the other. We’ll know quickly,” he explained.

Prior to the deal was validated Wenger stated any cuts from his team wouldn’t be fatal.

The Frenchman added in: “We are all disposable. The many cemeteries are filled with disposable individuals.

“But you don’t want to give up big players. We battle to have big players so you don’t wish to lose them.”

Fabregas has not played for the Gunners in pre-season after being hit by a hamstring injury, although Wenger has said his skipper has been unsettled by the rumored interest from Barcelona.

Wenger ignored the suggestion, however, that Fabregas had rejected to play for him.

And in spite of Nasri starting and playing for 65 minutes in France’s game against Chile on Wednesday, Wenger was adamant the 24-year-old was suffering from an illness.

“Cesc is not on strike. Cesc is not wounded, he’s not match fit. I don’t want to go any further than that,” he added.

“Nasri went for the national team, he was sick, and he has not totally recovered yet. There are no other reasons why he is not in the squad.”

Ladies Football World in Germany – Failure or Success? With both the semi finals… still to be played, an early conclusion can be made where ladies football stands and about the success of the world cup in Germany. When judging the world cup we probably have to look at a few different areas. The first is the teams performance. It is fair to say that ladies football still lacks the amount of skill and talent which can be found in the men’s version. The average is just not were it should be and therefore is still being looked down on by most male football fans. There have been exceptions, beautiful goals have been scored, various single brilliant performances as well as brilliant team performances were on display. Overall though, on a playing level the world cup has never taken off. The second thing is probably the refereeing. Some shockingly bad refereeing decisions, pinnacle being the obvious handball by the Nigerian player v Australia, have not helped to improve the ladies referee reputation. From that point of view the world cup has been a complete failure. But the third point of view would be the atmosphere and attendance of the games. Germany have done a tremendous job of building up the atmosphere in and around the stadiums. The media have been very good. The opening game of the German ladies has drawn as many people to the telly as a gents’ game would have done. The stadiums were very well filled and the fans were very enthusiastic.

Overall we are probably at a score of 2:1 in regards of a failure, but I wouldn’t want to be that harsh, so I will give an “offside goal” to the success side to make it an even 2:2.

There is not a summer where we can not look forward to a great football tournament. This year is the turn…. of the South American version of the European Championship, the Copa America. 12 nations are fighting it out from the 1st of July until the 24th of July in 12 stadiums. This year Argentina are the hosts and the pressure on the argentine team is already mounting. Having the worlds greatest footballer, being the hosts and just falling short on the last 2 tournaments the public now expects the trophy back in Buenos Aires. And the odds certainly aren’t against Argentina, as usual, next to Brazil the tournament favourites. The 12-times Champions are having almost all superstars including Messi and Tevez available and seem in good shape judging by the recent thrashing of Albania in a friendly. It is time for Messi in particular to make his country proud as he regularly outplays himself for Barcelona but seems to under perform for the national side.

The other team to watch, of course, is Brazil. The defending Champions are looking to impress and set the tone for the coming World Cup in 2014 at their own country. You would have to be a seriously risky betting man if you were to place a winners bet on any other team than the big two.

Unfortunately as always, security fears remain a top issue. This weeks south American Champions League Finale was marred by a mass brawl after the game and the River Plate relegation game too was in the news for the wrong reason. I hope we don’t see any of these pictures during the tournament and enjoy the football we are used to coming from South America!

Are we witnessing the greatest football team of all time? A lot points in that direction…. First of all, there is the undeniable success. 3 Champions League victories in 6 years and 5 times Spanish champions within 7 years. In addition they reached the Spanish Cup Finale in 2009 and 2011 having won it 2009. If one doesn’t want to accept these numbers you may also look at the Spanish national side. Years after years labelled as underachiever the are now reigning World and Euorpean Champions. And the heart and soul of players are coming from this Barcelona Team. If you add the single greatest Fottballer of all time in Messi and you surely have the worlds best football team. It is frightening to see how easy this team pushed very good teams aside like Manchester United. Barca have an ability to play 3 different tactical formations with very attacking wide man. The sheer number they send forward with every attack is hard to defend and demands a 100% fit and organized team. This credit goes to Guardiola, no doubt. He has formed these great players into a mindblowing attacking force which seems unstoppable. The likes of Real, ManU, Milan and Bayern have there work cut out to stop Barca doing what no team was able to do, successfully defending the European Champions League.

After the most exciting last day in the english Premier League, one question comes to my head. Is the english Premier League the best league in the world? Lets look at it objectively:… The stats don’t lie, english teams have been more present in the european Champions League than any other nation. And the fact that a relegated team like Blackpool (55) have scored more goals than Villarreal (54) who play internationally next year shows a lot about the excitement in english stadiums. Of course, one could argue that where the most money is, there is the best football. But I would like to think that titles and success on the pitch can not be bought. Other leagues like the spanish La Liga oder the german Bundesliga offer excitement too. And fact is that no other countries offer such high stadium attendances like the german Bundesliga. And no other countries offer so many superstars like the spanish La Liga. The fact is, one will never know. If you want to compare it in revenue, the Premier League blows everything out of the water. I guess, it can only be seen subjectively, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But in my opinion the english Premier League is far up there with the spanish and the german leagues. Happy football break to everyone.

Like in England, in Spain 5 teams can get relegated today, although only 1 place is left, where as in England 2 places are left. Check out our predictions and who we think will go down. Enjoy!

Birmingham, a club not many know about. From a city of almost…. 3 millions inhabitants in the midlands of England. The club has lived such thing as a jojo life in english football. And this reputation is what they are trying to shake off. This weekend Birmingham Football club welcome Wolverhampton Football club. The expectations are huge, a feeling of: if not now, when then, sets in and Wolves seem to be the perfect opponents. On a run of 4 winless games and 11 goals conceded they are back in trouble themselves. Only wins will keep them up, but that is difficult to see where they will come from. Lacking the goal power and open at the back I am afraid that the one season at the Premier League is all Wolves can hope for this time around. All in all, Birmingham seem to have the better cards in the relegation battle and I hope Wolves can recover quickly and we will see them soon again in England’s best Football League.
