Meaningless pre-season friendlies?

Meaningless pre-season friendlies?— Or vital tool for the preparation of the upcomming season? Fans and more importantly ….

coaches are strongly devided over friendlies. Where it can be giving indications about the form of players or areas which need improving it also can pose an injury risk to anyone. In addition most friendlies are not played with the real hunger by any players anyway, therefore any indications of form may be misleading. For most fans it is a nice and easy (and cheap) way of seeing their heros, although most star players are still on holiday or rested anyway.  On the betting side of things you need to be careful. Upsets and surprises are more common than during the season due to lack of commitment. If any bets are placed, the bet on the outsider is the one of value. Laying the favourite is usually the one that comes to mind. But generally I would stay well clear of meaningless friendlies :-)
